Watercolour of Bayard's Cove Inn, one of the oldest buildings in Dartmouth

Bayard's Cove Inn Dartmouth is one of the oldest buildings in Dartmouth. This medieval building spans over the narrow entrance into the cobbled area known as Bayard’s Cove. The width between the Inn and the opposite building indicates just how narrow Dartmouth’s streets once were.  In previous centuries, the entire length of Lower Street was this width until a road widening scheme was adopted.

Originally a merchant’s house Number 27 Lower Street was known as Agincourt House, probably after the Battle of Agincourt fought in 1415 in Northern France.  In recent years it housed an antique business before being renovated and developed into Bayards Cove Inn,  a café, bar and restaurant with seven luxurious ensuite rooms.
